Escola B/S Domingos Capela, AEMGA
Located in the small touristic seaside town of Espinho, near Porto, Escola Básica e Secundária Domingos Capela is a public Portuguese school for pupils aged 10 to 18.
Our school is very active in trying to involve the local community in the large variety of activities and projects that we run. We teach the standard curriculum, as well as vocational classes so students are able to learn practical skills. |
|
We are now part of a group of schools called Agrupamento de Escolas Dr. Manuel Gomes de Almeida.

PT sailors working and preparing for the trips
Many were the teachers and non-teaching staff that worked really hard so that the Portuguese week could end up being a very successful and unforgettable one. A very big THANK YOU to all of them!
In memory of our good friend, colleague and former headmaster, António Sá, deceased in November 2014.
We recorded an audio dictionary to help us during the trips.

We made a presentation about our town to show to our partners in the first meeting in Newcastle.

We learned a lot about sharks on a thrilling "Skype in the Classroom" session with Jillian Morris, a marine biologist from the U.S.A..

- We are very proud to have been the only school in Portugal to chat -LIVE!- with Fabien Cousteau during his MISSION 31!
|
We were the ONLY class in the Iberian Peninsula and one of the few in the entire world that took part on the scientific event called MISSION 31! Provided by "Skype in the Classroom", we had a marvellous 31 minutes chat with the renowned oceanographer and scientist Fabien Cousteau, on 9th June 2014. He called us from the Aquarius, an underwater lab where he lived for 31 days!

- How cool is that, hum? ;)

During the project's lifetime many other students and classes in school worked for and learned from the project.

All aboard!
Before each exchange meeting, PT teachers met with the parents of the travelling students. All parents got a brochure and a map with the details regarding their kids trip.
Teams had to perform several challenges in order to be the winning team at the end of the week.
- And the winner is...
