A Voyage of Sea Discovery
‘Navigating from Virtual to Actual Europe: A Voyage of Sea Discovery’ is a collaborative project aiming to provide valuable insights into the relationship between the sea and coastal communities. We want to develop a deeper understanding of the way in which the sea has influenced and continues to influence the lives of those living close to it. Our interest is in the past, the present and the future. With the sea, all our communities have common ground. It is for this reason that the sea will be our common unifying theme.
The pupils will explore their own heritage and that of their partner communities through the study of local history, music, biology, physics, food, design technology and literature. In connecting learning with the world of work, students will discover that the sea may have a role to play in their futures. |
Exploring other coastal communities will also provide students with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the cultural, social and economic diversity within Europe. However, we want students to recognize that there are many similarities too. And it is in these similarities that all students, regardless of social or ethnic background, are able to develop a much deeper awareness of shared European and global citizenship.

We want this project to fuel the imagination of students and prompt them to see themselves, other countries and the world in different ways. The sea, as the central theme, is our vehicle for achieving this.
By the end of this project, our students will be better equipped with the kind of skills that they need to be active participators in an increasingly complex and competitive economic environment. They will also be better equipped with an understanding of how this might happen. We will expose them to the workplace, give them first-hand experience of what working life entails and encourage them to find a career path that is both rewarding and worthwhile.
This project has three main objectives:
The sea and our ever-changing relationship with it is the theme linking all activities. |
